Day for Vale’s 2030 Forest Goal: event brings together specialists
to discuss impacts and sustainability commitments
On November 28, an event was held at FutureBrand’s office in São Paulo to end
the latest acceleration cycle for businesses invested in as part of Vale’s 2030
Forest Goal. The following five enterprises in the initiative’s investment
portfolio presented their advances and results: Belterra Agroflorestas,
Bioenergia Orgânicos, Caaporã Agrosilvipastoril (NoCarbon), Courageous Land and
Inocas. In addition, challenges and trends were discussed with experts in this
area. This cycle was carried out by the CERTI Foundation and Darwin Aceleradora.

COP
27: initiatives supported by Fundo
Vale
During COP 27, the Amazon Bioeconomy Loan Guarantee Program was
launched. This initiative, run by Brazil’s national development
bank, BNDES, in partnership with Fundo Vale, seeks to facilitate
access to credit for the bioeconomy. In this same period, we
launched the Amazon Journey Platform, which will train up to
3,000 talented people and support the creation of 200 startups
that harness natural assets in the Amazon
biome.
Fundo Vale was also involved in some other
initiatives at COP 27, including the launch of Biomas, a new
company that will restore and preserve forests through a
partnership between Vale, Suzano, Marfrig, Itaú, Santander and
Rabobank.

Brazilian
innovations at forefront of Amazon
bioeconomy
Fundo Vale partners CERTI, Belterra and Courageous Land took
part in the 2022 edition of the Trillion Trees Campaign, an
initiative that is supporting innovative projects to protect the
biodiversity and ecosystems of the Amazon Rainforest.

CrediAmbiental
celebrates the signing of 112 new PRONAF loan
contracts with Banco da Amazônia
In all, 195 loan contracts amounting to R$585,000 worth of
credit have been signed in the region as part of this
initiative, developed by the Conexsus Institute. Since 2018,
Fundo Vale has been working with the institute to strengthen
community and family farming and extractive businesses.

Amazon
Links
The 2022 Amazon Links Contest – Forest Restoration Edition is a
nationwide competition carried out by the Amazon Conservation
and Sustainable Development Institute (IDESAM) and other
stakeholders, supported by Fundo Vale. This year, there were 67
entrants in 13 different Brazilian states. The top five ranked
projects will receive cash prizes.

COP 27?
How
can we help contain climate change through scalable
solutions? This was one of the main subjects discussed at
the 27th United Nations Climate Conference or COP 27. (“COP”
stands for “Conference of the Parties.”) The latest edition
of this event took place from November 6 to 18, 2022, in
Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. It was considered the most important
and largest event ever held on the topic of climate
change.

GIMPACT
obtains recognition
Fundo Vale’s impact management and measurement model, GIMPACT,
has been gaining recognition in the impact sector. The model was
presented as a case study in a guide called “Measuring the
Impact of Climate – Small and Growing Businesses,” produced by
the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE).
Furthermore, Juliana Vilhena, Fundo Vale’s impact measurement
leader, coordinated the “Impact Measurement Methodology and
Trends” module for the Amazon at Home, Intact Forest movement,
presenting the perspective of investors and funders. We also
took part in the Seventh Assessment Agenda Meeting of the Group
of Institutes, Foundations and Companies (GIFE), at which we
shared our experience of working with Vox Capital on the
development of impact management and measurement models.

Green
Wave Day of Connection
Climate Ventures, in partnership with IPU, Fundo Vale, the
Institute for Climate and Society and the Land Innovation Fund,
held a free event in São Paulo on November 23, featuring a lot
of networking and practical content, focusing on
entrepreneurship and innovation. Fundo Vale took part in a panel
discussion called “Climate impact calculator for forests and
land use.”

ANDE
goes into the fiel
Fundo Vale recently went on a field trip to Coruputuba Farm,
during which members of the Aspen Network of Development
Entrepreneurs (ANDE) could learn more and be inspired by the
possibility of running pilot projects and scaling up
agroforestry business models in the Paraíba Valley in
southeastern Brazil.
