How could climate change affect forest plantations? This was one of the subjects discussed at a webinar called “Climate Change’s Impact on Tree Plantations,” held by Viçosa Federal University’s Forestry Research Institute on June 18. This institute, which focuses on promoting scientific and technological development in the forestry sector, seeks to bring together academia, industry and the government to foster research and innovation in forest management, environmental conservation and the sustainable use of forest resources.

Bia Marchiori, who is responsible for the technical, knowledge, and social and environmental safeguards area of Vale’s 2030 Forest Goal, shared her experience alongside Josileia Zanatta, a researcher at Embrapa Florestas and Bruno Magro, Klabin’s forestry research and development manager. The title of her talk was “Climate Change and Its Impact on Sustainable Agricultural and Agroforestry Systems.”

“At the event, we had the opportunity to share, exchange and learn information about climate change and forests. Other speakers gave presentations about research related to climate change’s impact on the world and particularly on forestry, and we had the opportunity to explain how initiatives to strengthen and support the implementation of sustainable production systems, such as the Forest Goal, may be viable options for businesses and have positive impacts in the current climate context,” says Marchiori.
