Newsletter analyzes region’s environmental crisis and social inequalities, as well as urgent need to increase investment in social and environmental impact there
The October 2024 edition of Boletim Amazônia (“Amazon Bulletin”) is now out. The publication’s third edition provides an in-depth analysis of the current situation in the Amazon region.
Key topics in this issue include the region’s severe forest fire crisis, which involves the highest number of fires in 19 years, despite a decrease in deforestation. There’s also an interview with Beto Veríssimo about the launch of Imazon’s Social Progress Index, emphasizing critical social and environmental inequalities in the region. The bulletin also discusses the increasing vulnerability of the western Amazon to climate change.
Advances in public policies and sustainable financing mechanisms, such as the Tropical Forests Forever Fund, are also covered by this edition.
The publication highlights the urgent need to increase investment in science, technology and innovation as pillars for strengthening the biome’s conservation and promoting social and environmental development in the region. In this context, the development of the bioeconomy and the creation of new financial mechanisms are presented as fundamental to guaranteeing the protection and recovery of tropical forests, driving sustainable and balanced economic growth in the Amazon.
