Fundo Vale attended debates on sustainable production systems and the socio-bioeconomy in the Amazon

Fundo Vale attended the 2024 Bioeconomy Amazon Summit, which was organized by the Global Compact Brazilian Network in partnership with venture capital firm KPTL. The event took place in Belém, Pará, between July 31 and August 1, with the aim of broadening the discussion on innovation and entrepreneurship in the Amazon, considering the context of global climate change and positive social and environmental impacts.

The summit brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, traditional community leaders, investors, civil society organizations and government representatives, who shared and debated innovative solutions to boost the socio-bioeconomy in the region. The schedule included panels and talks on high-priority topics such as biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture and the economic empowerment of local communities, as well as pitches from entrepreneurs.

Sessions dedicated to sustainable farming highlighted practices and technologies that respect the environment and strengthen local communities, while debates on economic empowerment showed how industries based on the bioeconomy can generate income and improve the quality of life of the Amazon’s people.

Interactive workshops gave participants the opportunity to learn about innovative techniques and methodologies for sustainable resource management. Sessions focused on integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific advances emphasized the importance of combining this knowledge to create resilient and inclusive economic models.

“Initiatives like this help create a robust framework for sustainable development in the Amazon, as they promote an interconnection of ideas, research and successful solutions, and above all include local leaders in the debate. It was inspiring to see so many promising initiatives that take advantage of the Amazon’s biodiversity in a responsible way, while addressing socioeconomic challenges,” says Márcia Soares, Fundo Vale’s Amazon and partnerships manager.
